Video presentation
The ISF was founded on June 4th 1972 in Beaufort, Luxembourg. It was set up to meet the harrowing lack of opportunities for young people in secondary education (aged 14 to 17) to meet on the sporting front.

Introduction Past Achievements and future developments
The ISF, since its establishment, has been recognised by many national and international school authorities and organisations, and has taken its place among international sport federations. It is a member of GAIFS and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The ISF is today a world-wide federation covering five continents.

Introduction Objectives and limits
The ISF is the International Federation of official school sport organisations in the different countries or of representative organisations where there is no official one. It organises international competitions in different sporting disciplines and encourages contests between school students with a view to promoting better mutual understanding. It seeks close collaboration with the school authorities of member countries, with the international sporting federations concerned, and with international organisations having similar aims.

Introduction Competitions
The major team sports - basketball, football, handball and volleyball - form the basis of sporting competitions in the biennial tournaments. School teams, composed of members of the same school, take part in the competitions.

Introduction Structure
The supreme body of the International School Sport Federation is the General Assembly in which each full member country is represented with voting rights. The General Assembly elects the Executive Committee and approves the guidelines for the work to be carried out during the current working period.

Introduction How the ISF came into beiing
Around the mid 1960s, international sporting contests between schools were on the increase. Besides occasional and haphazard meetings between two or more schools, tournaments were beginning to be organised regularly in different disciplines: in handball from 1963, in volleyball from 1969, in football one year later and from 1971 also in basketball. Each of these annual tournaments produced basic regulations and a standing committee.
